Answers for Thread users.
Most common questions about Thread, the voice-first notebook for iOS.
How do I get Thread?
Thread is on the App Store for iPhone. Tap Download on iOS from the Thread page to open it directly, or search for “Thread: Think Out Loud” in the App Store.
Does Thread store my notes in the cloud?
No. Thread is entirely on-device. Your voice, the transcripts it produces, and the notes Thread organizes from those transcripts never leave your iPhone. Apple’s on-device frameworks handle speech recognition and AI organization locally — nothing gets sent to a server.
For the full breakdown, read the Privacy Policy.
What iPhone do I need?
Thread requires iOS 26 or later and an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence. That’s iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 or newer.
Why does Thread need microphone and speech permission?
Microphone access lets the app capture audio when you tap the mic. Speech recognition lets Apple’s on-device speech framework convert that audio into text. Both run locally on your iPhone — Thread never transmits audio anywhere.
You can revoke either permission anytime in iOS Settings. Thread keeps working; you just won’t be able to record new notes until you re-enable them.
What happens if I delete the app?
Your notes live in Thread’s sandbox on your iPhone. Deleting the app tells iOS to remove the entire sandbox — notes, settings, everything. There’s nothing on a server because no server exists.
Make sure you’ve copied anything you want to keep before uninstalling.
